The Sea Was No More

Ogasawara National Park

Today is a travel day. Em (my daughter) and I head out of Chicago and drive back to the Minneapolis area–about an eight hour drive. I’m short on time but thought I’d blog a bit anyway. Em is sleeping and the morning is still kinda young….

Yesterday we hoofed around ‘town’ looking for a shop Em really liked when she was here with the high school band tour in March. We never did find it, but we had a nice walk…at one point we ended up on Lakeshore Drive…where the humongous Drake Hotel is located. We got to see the water and the boats, lovely view those hotel rooms must have!

At a store we did shop at (a kitchen store??!!), the clerk gave us the low down on how Lake Michigan (the lake Chicago is situated on) really isn’t a lake, it is an inland sea. It is a huge freshwater body of water (all the Great Lakes are), and I can see where it may be construed as a sea and maybe technically it really is, don’t know. Got me thinking of yesterday’s blog (Chicago), about the holy city in the book of Revelation. One of the very first things it says about the new heaven and earth is that the “sea was no more” (ch 21 vs 1). When I read that yesterday, the first thing that popped into my mind is the symbolic meaning for sea or ocean: the unconscious. So, I wondered if in the new heaven and the new earth (after evil in all its forms has been defeated and removed) that there will be no more unconscious. All will be conscious, we’ll all be aware of everything, nothing will lurk beneath the surface. We’ll have our eyes wide open…and function fully, knowing exactly what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. No more mystery, all will be known…”for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.” (Jesus in Matthew 10:26)

Funny, in my spiritual development reading, progressively becoming more conscious is a huge part of maturing spiritually. Looking life straight in the eye, progressively letting go of fear and replacing it with trust in God allows the unconscious into awareness. Guess it would make sense that in the new heaven and earth there wouldn’t be anymore unconsciousness, that all would be known…guess moving in that direction now also makes a whole lot of sense…prepping for Home :-)
